3 EASY STEPS TO FOLLOW IF YOU HAVE LOST YOUR BRP IN THE UK

CONGRATULATIONS ON MAKING IT BACK TO THE UK (& SURVIVING THE FIRST PHASE OF LOSING YOUR BRP).LET’S GET MOVING TO THE NEXT STEP NOW, SHALL WE?

Before we start the discussion of the steps to getting a replacement BRP, please note that this is based on my personal experience of losing my permit in Portugal. This is not in anyway affiliated with any agencies or the home office. I thought it would be good for you to read a real experience and take back from it.

PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS POST IS ONLY FOR THOSE WHO HAVE BEEN GRANTED A SINGLE ENTRY BACK TO THE UK AND NEED TO APPLY FOR A REPLACEMENT BRP WITHIN THE UK. THIS WILL ALSO APPLY TO THOSE WHO HAVE LOST THEIR BRP WITHIN THE UK. FOLLOW THE LINK BELOW IF YOU HAVE LOST YOUR BRP OUTSIDE THE UK AND NEED TO GAIN A SINGLE ENTRY VISA.

Before I begin with the steps, i have outlined the process and duration of each step below :

  1. 19/08/2018 - Filled in application form online

  2. 21/08/2018 - Sent in my supporting documents + Visa Application (printed)

  3. 03/10/2018 - Received the letter to provide my biometrics

  4. 08/10/2018 - Enrolled my biometrics

  5. 17/10/2018 - Received all my documents

  6. 24/10/2018 - Received my BRP (hooray!)

so lets get straight to the point:

STEP 1:

FILLING IN THE APPLICATION FORM ONLINE -

LINK : https://visas-immigration.service.gov.uk/product/biometric-residence-permit-replacement-service

Considering you have followed the steps to applying for single entry visa, the first step to getting your replacement BRP is the application form (sorry to state the obvious here).

The application form is very straightforward so it would be quite a waste of time to list all the Questions and answers here. However, I have listed a few important ones:

  • PART 2 (NO PAGE NUMBERS INCLUDED IN THE APPLICATION):

I entered all of the following but there is an option of not doing so :

    BRP number

    When was it lost/stolen

How was it stolen and where

  • PART 2

    Have you reported it

When did you report it and how - I reported it in Portugal when I lost it but did so through the online form

Have you reported it to the police - I did (in Portugal again!).

Location of police report, date and have you got the report

STEP 2:

PAY THE APPLICATION FEE & PRINT APPLICATION FORM AND CHECKLIST OF DOCUMENTS

FEES : £56

I paid the application fee after completing the form and printed out the form. Although this is not required, I like having extra documents on hand (best not to risk it!). I printed the document checklist via the link received through email.

NOTE : PRINT APPLICATION FORM

STEP 3:

PREPARE DOCUMENTS AND POST -

The documents I sent forward were :

  1. PHOTOGRAPHS

2 UK passport photographs of yourself taken within the last month. Photos should be on a grey or cream background.

  2. PASSPORTS

  3. POLICE REPORT + TRANSLATED REPORT (IF IT IS NOT IN ENGLISH)

  4. EMPLOYMENT LETTER (OPTIONAL)

  5. LOST BRP PHOTOCOPIES

  6. PROOF OF ADDRESS

I printed my bank statements and had it stamped at the bank

NOTE : SEND IT FIRST CLASS SIGNED FOR (as this is trackable)

my advise to you :

Not much on this one. It is such an easy process and there is absolutely no reason to be stressed or worried about it. Once you have sent in the application, you should receive the BRP quite quickly.
