Welcome to the Knit Studio

I’m Yakshi Malhotra - knitwear specialist and educator, working across knitwear alterations, education and design development.

Where it Started

For the past 14 years, I’ve worked across different corners of the knitwear industry, moving between creativity, technical development and education. This studio is the result of everything I’ve learned, and all the roles that shaped how I understand knitwear today.

After spending years working within the industry, I realised how difficult it was to find a space that allowed me to use all my skills - to create, to teach, to solve technical problems, while still having the balance and freedom to grow in my own way.

That space didn’t exist.

So I built it.

My Experience

My background spans across:

  • Luxury brands — working on knitwear for McQ Alexander McQueen, DKNY and other high-end labels, where precision and finishing standards are extremely high.

  • Manufacturing — overseeing sampling at a knitwear factory, learning the exact process behind production, fit, finishing and the realities of wastage.

  • Swatch development — freelancing for swatch studios and exploring the creative, experimental side of knit.

  • Education — working with universities and students, understanding what they truly need to bridge the gap between study and the industry.

Every step taught me something different - technical logic, creativity, problem-solving, construction, and how to communicate knitwear in a way that feels accessible.

Together, these experiences shaped the vision for this studio.

A Knit Space for Everyone.

I created this space to support anyone who works with knitwear:

  • Students and universities who want structured, industry-informed knit education

  • Designers and brands introducing knitwear into their collections

  • Industry professionals needing technical support or development

  • Individuals wanting specialist knit alterations or repair for their beloved garments

Whether you’re building a collection, learning the foundations, or saving a sentimental knit, my aim is always the same: to offer clarity, expertise and honest guidance.

If you’re here, you’re in the right place

I believe knitwear deserves time, care and the right technical knowledge and I’m here to help with all three.

Whatever you need, feel free to reach out.

Let’s see how we can work together.
